Day 1 at the Hospital

Feb 1, 2016 (Mon)

Best ways to describe this day-
Light bleeding, calm, rest that turned into immediate heavy bleeding -Crazy,
shocking, weak, and scared after emergency hospital visit.
I had some light bleeding this morning that came on half hour after Mark left
to drop the kids off at school. It wasn't too much coming out so I didn't tell
Mark anything right away since he has enough on his plate with his boss in
town. I rested all morning and into the afternoon with minimal times getting
up to bake bread and use the bathroom. I didn't even shower since I had
showered last night after we arrived home from DC.
Once 2:30 came along when it was time to pick up the kids from school the
bleeding had stopped so I decided to go ahead and get them. At first I was
tempted to call up a friend who could pick them up but I didn't. Afterwards I
should have gone home to keep resting, but still the bleeding hadnt come on
again and I wasn't in any pain so I decided to run a quick errand with the kids
to pick up Truman scout shirt. We hopped on the 1 train then transferred to
the B train at 59th St. and got off on 34th St. Right as I walked off the B train
a huge amount of blood came gushing out. Two large amounts came out in
a row. It was more that came out then when my water broke when I was
pregnant with Chantel. I immediately sat on a bench and called Mark to
decide whether I should call 911 and take an ambulance or walk up the stairs
and hale a cab to take me to the hospital. We decided it was better to hale a
cab even though I had to walk all the way up the stairs. Right as I got inside
the cab I texted my family to let them know what was going on and please
keep me in their prayers also mentioning I may have lost the baby. I felt at
peace in the cab ride when I felt the baby still was moving, but still very
scared at the same time. Five minutes before arriving at the hospital, Chantel
started flipping out saying "mom, it really stinks in here" and "mom my
stomach hurts I have to Poop." Kids are so honest! Truman was good about
keeping her calm and we open the window so she wouldn't get motion sick. As
we arrived at the hospital Mark was already there waiting for us with a
wheelchair. He wheeled me into the hospital and as we entered passing the
security guard's, one of them
said "congratulations." Ha! that's the last thing we want to hear. No I was not
in labor and not even close to being ready for baby's arrival.
I want to say it was around 5:00 when I arrived at the hospital. Mark had
already called my doctor and so labor and delivery people were expecting
me. They immediately checked on the baby and she was fine. That was very
calming and reassuring. They then did a specular exam to check and see how much blood I had
inside and if it was still flowing consistently. Most of it had stopped. They
mentioned I didn't have placenta abreva which was really assuring, but still
weren't sure what was causing the bleeding -thinking it was a mild abruption.
Mark called our home teacher for help finding someone to pick the kids up
from the hospital. Sam Picklesimer came to get them and take them home to
feed them dinner. Thank you to so many friends who came to the rescue and offered help.
I'm so glad we didn't loose the baby. My mom flew in the next morning and came right to the hospital.
